Introduction to SAFIRE

SAFIRE brings together the staff and the 3 research aircraft of the CNRS/INSU, Météo-France and the CNES.

The main task of SAFIRE is to operate the aircraft during experimental research campaigns. 


SAFIRE is mainly located at Toulouse, but also in the INSU/DT offices in Meudon, near Paris.

EUFAR: European network for airborne research

SAFIRE is a member of the european network of research aircraft: EUFAR. EUFAR goal is to promote the airborne research in europe and mutualize the infrastructures in order to allow all scientists in europe to have access to an aircraft (if possible, the best suited aircraft) for their experiment.


COPAL copal

SAFIRE takes part to the COPAL project which goal is to prepare the acquisition of a heavy payload and long endurance aircraft. This future aircraft will be operated at a european level. Read more : www.eufar.net/COPAL/.

2009 Campagnes de mesures CAROLS, MEGAPOLI. Prise en charge du Falcon. Renouvellement de l’UMS. Changement de directeur.
2008 Campagnes de mesures ADELINE, FLYSAFE, POLARCAT, EUCAARI, CAROLS, CALIPSO. Changement de statut du F20.
2007 Campagnes de mesure COPS, EUFAR, CAROLS. Préparation des configurations avion 2008.
2006 Première campagne de mesure avec l’ATR42 et le F20 (AMMA). Mise en place des protocoles de travail.
2005 Année de création de SAFIRE. Première année d’activités. Réception et préparation des nouveaux avions.
