The system Planet, developed by Atmosphère company in partnership with Safire, allows ground crews to exchange data with the aircraft via an IRIDIUM satellite link.
Two options are proposed:
Basic option - low rate
- instant messaging, up to 5 channels, between ground and aircraft equipped with the system
- Visualization of the aircraft trajectory on standard and live map backgrounds
- Addition of markers, drawing of zones from the ground or planes, in order to communicate to all the flight evolutions possibilities
Complete option - high rate
- Possibility of data file transfers, for example:o Sending of weather situation from the ground to the aircraft to monitor live phenomena such as storm cells
- Sending real time observations from the aircraft to the ground, such as atmospheric profiles from dropsondes to be used for nowcasting
Using the Planet system during experiments
- Users should ask for this use during the preparation of the experiment, because technical adaptations requiring a delay of realization may be necessary
- Activating the full option may generate additional costs.
